Training

Our industry has seen many changes over recent years in its traditional teaching methods and a
decline in the general level of competence.  With a voice which represents our specialised trades
directly through ACTEAM, and in partnership with such institutes and associations as the
Joinery Managers Association and the Institute of Carpenters, we will ensure that standards improve.
NVQ / SVQs will become recognised at their true level, while advanced training and examinations
will be actively based upon the standards which the Institute of Carpenters and similar bodies have
succeeded in maintaining.

ACTEAM will have direct links to our schools, colleges, Construction Industry Training Board and
Shopfitting Industry Group Training Association, all of which will be developed to ensure qualified
craftsmen of the future. Recognition of students' actual achievements, skill levels and competence
will be easily identified through ACTEAM's certified training schemes and accreditations.

We have also seen a decline in interest among school-leavers in joining our industry, and as a result,
the choice and selection of prospective trainees is extremely restricted. ACTEAM will mount a campaign to
ensure careers advisors and pupils alike are fully aware of the opportunities that future tradesmen,
technicians and professional craftsmen can look to enjoy within the construction industry.


Beyond basic and advanced craft training, structured courses wil be offered to progress students
through technical and managerial levels of training to ensure skills and competence levels are attained
in all aspects of our trades.


The courses available will be open to all age groups as a complete programme of training, or as a
one-off for employers who want to select specific courses to cover particular needs.


Trade and professional members will also be eligable for accreditation as individuals via the
training process and assessment to complete the circle.
